It is always hard what to write when one is presented with equally good and bad parts. Well I shouldn’t say equally, but the bad part I am talking about is the design. I hate it. It makes me get dizzy. Well ok, not completely, but the font that was used for the navigation and for the title were making me crazy. I couldn’t stand to look at it.

So instead of looking at the design, I focused on the writing. His writing is very good for his age and posted some things that made me think. One of his more recent posts that made me think was “What would you do if you new you only had 1 week left to live” he explained what he would do, and it was very moving.

If there were a small re-design, this site would be better as it doesn’t do the writing any justice.

Alright! The author is unabashedly queer. The posts tend to be short, angsty, vulgar, very smart, and pointedly entertaining.

The website design is very slick and lean. While I abhor white text on black backgrounds, I endured it anyway. It was worth it. I am impressed.

I laughed, I winced, I bit my lower lip in discomfort.

Here is a snippit:

“on to my weekend

i shall not post until it is monday

and i have had my fill

of debauchery”

If I could make a wish for this site, it would be for longer, meatier posts. But isn’t that what every boy wants?

Aesthetically, this weblog is a generic Blogger template. The content is quirky and eccentric.. and there isn’t veyr much of it. I read the entire site in 2 minutes.

The site is SO eccentric that it’s almost inaccessable to the reader. I must admit that it did strike a familiar chord in me. Unappologetic weirdness is charming.

Developmentally, this site is just a little baby blog. It should come back for a review when it’s a bit older and can toddle around and has more content posted and a more distinctive look to it.

The garish neon puke green background, the arbitrary mixing of tenses, the lack of punctuation, missing in-between words, and a generally disjointed stream of thought leave this weblog virtually unreadable.

I like the minimalist look to the page though. (except for the color of course). The snowflakey flowers down the left side of the page are pretty.

The author seems to live an interesting life. If only the english wasn’t so painful to read, this site could have some potential.

Starjewel is yet another fantastic personal weblog that boasts both oodles of content and great page design. Categorically, Starjewel may be considered a “chick blog” despite its gender-neutral outward appearance. Don’t let that be a determent; there is much to enjoy at Starjewel.

The author, self-described as a “geek chick from Pittsburgh”, has put much thought into Starjewel’s simple yet pleasing layout; this is especially apparent when comparing the blog in MSIE 5.5 and NS 6.1, as the blog views identically in both browsers. The links included at Starjewel are varied and interesting, and Starjewel itself makes a great launching pad for the further exploration of choice personal weblogs.

Layout and links aside, the Star in this jewel of a blog is the author’s writing. Insightful, humorous, well-composed entries seem to be a hallmark of this literate blogger; and, the entries are an absolute pleasure to peruse. The links provided within entries are not haphazard and they lead to content which nicely compliments the author’s own writings. The seamless blend of candid writing, excellent composition, proper grammar, and links lend a high quality air to Starjewel. This is a weblog not to be missed.
