The Weblog Review

I have seen a lot of weblogs, and I have to say that if you took a smattering of this, and a little bit of that, ineffectual is what you would get. Needlessly short posts of little to no importance, overdone design, and a link to a site that looks remarkably like his. I swear, I got deja vu when I read over his posts. It isn’t bad; the site is grammatically correct and has some fairly digestable content, but it’s boring. It lacks identity. Dare I even say it lacks purpose. The design, although overdone, is minimal and easy to read, which is probably not something one would want with a weblog that lacks personality. Right off the bat, the writer stated “[The Weblog Review] really pisses me off. our weblogs aren’t for you. that and you’re rather superficial.” I could rant about my opinion on this topic, but abstain I shall. In addition to being bitter and having an odd obsession with the superficiality of everything, this weblog is really just a bitch-and-moan angst fest. It isn’t horrible, and it isn’t hard to read. But it lacks the identity and pinache a weblog needs to keep its head above water in this day and age.ineffectual

Honestly, this is one of the best weblogs I have seen from someone who isn’t even old enough to drive. The design is very crisp and uncluttered, but with great visuals. Clean and easy, just how I like my women. The content is fairly basic; brief synopses of movies, music videos, and tv shows abound, but it isn’t bad at all. The writer has her own unique style and a bit of dry wit. It’s isn’t horribly personal, as most of the better teen-genre weblogs are, but it’s still an enjoyable read. Plus, this girl has very good taste. You can see it from the get go with her design. She writes very eloquently on the subject of Dancer In The Dark, a movie the majority of the unwashed masses have yet to grasp. Dare I say she’s even a bit intellectual. This was a fresh and unique idea for

a weblog. CockyKitty.com is a

weblog written from the perspective

of a cat; certainly the first of those I

have reviewed. I liked the look and

layout of the site, and was interested

to learn about it.



Most of the weblog entries were only

a couple of sentences long, usually

containing a link to a picture of or

another site about cats. I felt that the

entries were generally too short, but

then, I don’t really know what to

expect out of a cat in the first place.



There were good links to other parts

of the site, including a bio, info about

cat adoptions, and other feline

related material. I was disappointed

to learn that the site design and

graphics had admittedly been ripped

off from another site.



CockyKitty.com is at the least a good

way of turning an old idea into

something new and fresh. The

humoruos style in which it was made

reflects the “real” author’s love for

cats. Any cat owner would find this

My initial thoughts about the site in general consisted “God, how deathly boring!” Politics and political blogs have never been very popular with me (unless there’s parody involved), but for the sake of reviewing, I do read them. The site itself is hosted at Blogspot (which does not affect the score of this review) and has no real design to speak of, which is probably the point of the blog. Perhaps it’s supposed to represent news print. Straight black and white. Politics is boring, therefore the site design is well, boring. After a very quick onceover, I noted that the site had only been started in May this year (2003), and wasn’t updated as much as I would normally like – certainly not for a News/Links blog in any case.

With those initial strikes out of the way, I delved deeper into the blog. The actual content (when it’s actually posted) is quite thoughtful and very well put forward. The blogger knows his Blairs from his Bushes. Obviously. He takes a firm stand on his beliefs about the war in Iraq and the Weapons of Mass Destruction debacle. However, he makes a fair few poignant statements but does absolutely nothing to back them up (no links or research aside from a quick reference to Reuters). This is something I consider extremely important when writing about political events.

“It is regretful that it has taken the death of Dr Kelly to lead to a judicial inquiry. The parliamentary committees have proved ineffective at getting to the truth and the Official Opposition has maintained its usual levels of political ineptitude.”

“What’s the answer to Blair’s quandary? Firstly lay off the BBC, they aren’t the enemy! Second lay into the Conservatives, they are and they’re hypocrites to boot!”

Unfortunately for a blog such as this one, it’s not updated nearly enough for it to be a useful forum as the writer so desired. Things are happening every day – the media is plastered with information daily on the happenings in the UK and the Blair administration. Considering the blog was started in May, and lots has happened since that time, one would assume that there would be a heck of a lot more information than there is currently. I think many people wanting to find current news, views and updates would find the site irritatingly lacking – something I find disappointing as the site has such good potential.Progressive Politics UK

Excellence, if one word could wrap up his site, excellence would be it. The layout is magnificent and the logs are interesting and fun to read. Sites having logs which are 2 sentences long updated every three days is really boring. It really seems that the Webmaster has their heart into the site and that is what I like to see. You really get a sense for what the webmaster is feeling, and that’s the point of a personal weblog. There is Porn on the site, which puts it into the adult category but if you want a good daily read, this is the place to go. Now about the sites looks. It is very fluid and easy for the eye to look at, as the color scheme is very well thought up.



F.U.B.A.R. easily dwarfs any other 5-point site I have seen to date. The site deserves more than a five and I wish I could do that.
