After reading the name of the blog, clicking the link and having the basic blogger template show up I had no idea what this blog was going to be about, once the page loaded and I saw the blurb “Tracking the trials and tribulations of yet another average chess fanatic trying to pull himself out of the ranks of patzer.” I have to admit, I did wince.

I’m not a chess person. In the least. So whatever the author is talking about in his new blog, the blog was only started on January 2005, I just didn’t understand or want to understand.

His initial reason for setting up the blog is basically so that he can track his own progress as he wants to get better at playing chess and move up in the local competition. His links in his blog work to other sites that he quotes or uses as reference, there isn’t much clutter, but then, as I said, it is a newish blog so I’m sure that it will develop.

But to give credit, the author does explain various tactical thoughts about chess, he has links to various other sites that are about chess and if you are into chess, then I believe you would get something out of this blog. Which is basically the reason why I gave it a .5, I believe that this blog is geared towards people who have chess as a hobby or are fanatical about it.

I, unfortunately, am not.

Sign of the times is a simple black background blogger template. Opening up this site I thought I’d be reading about happenings in this “time” so to speak. What you actually get is basically a view on prophesy’s from that bible that have since come true. This blog is heavily religious based, in so much as there is a lot of “anti-christ” talk in regards to the EU and the doomsday references.

There seems to be two people writing for this blog, but neither of them have any kind of information about themselves on the blog. There are no links to other blogs or links to any other webpages. Both author’s seem to focus mainly on the anti-christ and prophecy’s from the bible that relate to this coming.

I found this blog perked my interest, only because I quite enjoy a good religious read, especially when it comes to prophecy’s and miracles, but I think the author’s should talk about something else for a change apart from the anti-christ and the EU. I’m sure there are plenty of other prophecy’s in the Bible that haven’t been mentioned.

I gave this blog a 2.5 because it’s nearly interesting, but not quite. I found it lacking, only because there are so many other area’s explore in regards to the subject matter which haven’t been. But this is a very new blog I believe, there don’t seem to be any archives and only 10 entry’s, but then again, it just might be a play on the belief of the authors. If there are to be any more entry’s I hope the author’s will cover other topic areas and if they do I’ll definitely come back to have an ogle.

When Jay-B’s blog popped up on my screen my intial impression was neat & tidy. There is a google ad before the text begins, if it were my blog I’d move that and put it in a side bar somewhere, but that’s my own opinion.

Getting back to the blog itself, after reading the little blurb under his title saying “The only ridiculously opinionated college student youll ever need” I thought, hmm. Spelling error, you’ll. Jay-B should change that. What I expected from this blog was a college student that was writing about experiences, maybe college life and their own opinions. That is basically what you get. A 20 year old college student blogging about various things that happen to him or his friends.

The blog itself has various links along the right hand side and I like the fact that he has categories for his various entry’s. It means surfing through things are much easier than date links!

There isn’t anything that is particularly catching in this blog for me, although Jay-B does have some amusing entry’s I found that the blog made me feel like I was getting to know the nice lad next door. He writes well, gets his point across, sometimes writes in an amusing manner and really, I think that coming back every so often to see if there might be a change is something that I might do. I think the author is still growing, as he grows so too will his writing style and blog.

All in all, I think that this blog has potential. I’m not sure that it should be in the humour section though, I found it more of a personal blog than a humourous one.

This blog makes a great first impression. Jay-B from Texas has photos of himself at the top and the tagline “The only ridiculously opinionated college student you’ll ever need.” Made me laugh.

Jay-B’s blog is only about 6 months old. He started with posts about songs he was listening to and liking. (He is, after all, in college. New music is part of the daily routine in college.) He moved on to other topics about the college highjinx of himself and his friends, for example how his roommate butchered his own hair with clippers (complete with photos) or the saga of his friend Tommy buying cereal with coupons. Again, made me laugh.

The design of the site is mostly clean and well thought out(something I like a lot), but I groaned to see those Google ads at the very TOP of the page. Argh! Move these annoying things, Jay-B, please. His sidebar is well organized, and I liked his search tool that he calls “Snoop In An Organized Manner.” He also lists other blogs he has which include “Jay-B Gets Someone Coffee,” detailing his life as an intern.

Jay-B submitted his site as “humor,” but it is most definitely a personal blog and pretty standard college guy fare.Jay-B Says

I was expecting this blog to be written by a person who was “Doing Time”. We have had the homeless blogger, why not the inmate blogger? I thought that this blog would be about daily life and what not. Then I saw that this blog was in the Humor category and considered that it might be different.

The page loads with a header of a man behind bars giving someone the finger. Then there is the nice little quote of “Rehabilitated? Now let me see. You know, I don’t have any idea what that means.” from the Shawshank Redemption. I got that right away. The site has a black background and white text which is very prison like.

The posts are about things that has happened in The Trashman’s life as he remembers them or as were told. They are real stories, with only the guilty names changed. I find it hard to believe that the stories are mostly real, but then again, keeping up this charade would be hard to do.

The posts are about extremely weird and violent things that one would probably never do. Yet they are written with a certain comedic tone to them that you almost have to laugh at the situation rather than gawk at it.

I could go on and on about the posts and stuff, but I don’t want to spoil anything for you. I enjoyed this blog from beginning to end and laughed numerous times. The best way I can describe this blog is that this guy is blogging his life as if he was the main character in Grand Theft Auto.Doing Time
